You know your talent. Know what you’re good at. And know precisely what your dream career should be.
So why aren’t you making a living from it? Fear!
Fear of not being able to make a living with your talent. Fear that no one will like what you are offering. Fear that the market you are interested in entering is already saturated. Fear that someone with more money will steal your idea, market it better and make money, then blowing you out of the park having to start all over again with a new idea.
What really is fear?
According to Wikipedia, fear is an emotional response to threat and danger. It also stated that, fear is related to a number of emotional states including worry, anxiety, terror, fright, paranoia, horror, panic and dread.
Now let’s break this down, if fear is an emotional response to threat and danger, ask yourself, “Does pursuing my dream career put me in harms way?” If your answer is yes, then that is not your dream career to being with. However, if the answer is no, there is no reason to delay any longer. Your dream career won’t bite, well unless that’s part of what you like!
So next, fear being related to worry, anxiety, terror, fright, paranoia, horror, panic and dread. Whew, that’s a lot! With my PhD in Common Sense, I can tell you with sure authority, your dream career isn’t supposed to cause any of the above mentioned feelings. You may already have those emotions with the job you don’t like and trying to transition from. Thus, being the reason to pursue your dream career.
I heard someone use the word fear as an acronym to mean False Evidence Appearing Real. I believe this statement to be the truest meaning of fear. You only allow this emotion to paralyze you and keep you from moving forward without any sure facts that you won’t be able to achieve your career goals.
The reality is, if you get this fake fear stuff out the way, you would have overcome most of the battle in the ability to make a living from your dream career. If someone can invent a pet rock or bottle up free water and make a profit, so can you. With fear out the way, ask yourself the question, “Why don’t I really believe I can make a living from my talents?”
