Fall has to absolutely, positively be my most favorite time of the year. The leaves change to such beautiful colors as red, orange and gold. Leaves fall, preparing the tree for its winter hibernation leading to its spring rebirth. Some people might not like the fall, as it is a sign that soon winter will be upon us.
Just as the season has changed, so too should your attitude regarding your job search.
During this uncertain economic time, it is more important than ever for you to remain positive. Believe it or not, a positive or negative disposition plays a significant role in your job search. Your attitude determines your belief about what you can overcome (ex. lack of employment) to what you can achieve (ex. a dream career).
If you continuously believe there are no jobs in the current market that will match your skill set and your financial need, then you won’t find it, even if the opportunity presents itself. A negative perspective supports closed ears and eyes. If you are out on your one-millionth interview and carry your negative attitude, the employer will sense it. And just like you don’t want to be around people with a bad disposition, neither will a perspective employer.
I know for sure that it is hard to think of anything positive during hard times. However, during your downtime, you should list all of the wonderful things that are present in your life or situation. Some things may include, more time with family, time to clear your head and think best on how to proceed, or a time to resolve other outstanding issues that you couldn’t get around to before.
Change your drab black and white view to the beautiful fall colors of red, orange and gold. Looking at your glass as half full, instead of half empty, will lead you to opportunities you would have closed your eyes and ears to before. Your positive attitude will shine through and attract people and circumstances to your life to assist you in fulfilling your employment pursuit.
